The most strange and unsettling things can be found on the dark web. I came across this secret web location as a high school student out of pure curiosity. But what I discovered there was a world that was unimaginably vast.

One of the first things I noticed was a forum where individuals planned and discussed illegal activities. I overheard people talking about how to break into government websites and steal personal data. Even people offering instruction on how to make homemade explosives were visible to me. The ease with which this information could be obtained and the informality of the conversations were shocking.

The most unsettling thing I saw on the dark web, however, was a market place where anything could be purchased or sold. I observed people hawking drugs, weapons, and even credit card data that had been stolen. However, the “services” section was what really chilled my blood. I observed individuals advertising hitman services, the sale of human organs, and even kidnapping and extortion services. It served as a somber reminder of how far some people will go in order to get money.
